Physical Education/Health Education

Prerequisite: None
Students will study how to maintain an active regime of physical activities in order to improve their health and general well being. A variety of activities are taught and practiced in order to expand the student’s awareness and appreciation of how to maintain a safe and healthy state of being.
The student will study human health concepts, and practice knowledge and skills that promote growth and development of personal health, safety practices and disease prevention. Areas of concentration include expanding the student’s understanding of how personal hygiene and nutrition impacts on health and wellness. Students will increase their awareness of healthy foods, how to differentiate legal and illegal drugs, and the differences between infectious and noninfectious diseases. |

Fitness Training (Fall/Spring)

Prerequisite: None
The Fitness Training Class gives the student the opportunity to improve their personal health focusing on the Five Fitness Components; Muscular Strength, Muscular Endurance; Flexibility, Cardiovascular Endurance, and Body Composition. The student will explore different training programs, nutritional guidelines, and health benefits of being physically active through out their lifetime. |

Personal, College and Financial-Career Readiness

Prerequisite: None
Help students feel empowered to be more effective in school and life as they master The 7 habits of Highly Effective Teens. These 7 habits are to help a person take responsibility for their life through defining a life mission, setting goals and prioritizing. They also teach interpersonal relationship skills to allow for better outcomes, listening skills, how to work together to achieve more and the need for life long education.
College Readiness Objectives
Students will identify their career interests and aptitudes and develop an education plan which supports personal, educational and career goals.
Financial Readiness Objectives
The NEFE High school financial Planning Program will be used to alert, inform, and educate students about sound money management skills and the financial planning process to help in planning for life and a career.

NPS Drivers Education Class
½ credit, 1 semester; Evening Class Hours
Prerequisite: None
Objectives of the Drivers Education will be to educate students to the aspects of driving safely and responsibly. This course will allow the student to work towards obtaining a driver’s license, understanding driving, vehicle operation and maintenance. It is important that a student commit to attending all class periods (this is an after school class), paying the 25 dollar fee and passing the final exam at 70 % to receive credit in the class. This is the classroom part of driver’s education and the driving part will take place with the parents or guardian. |

Senior Seminar
1 credit, 1 semester
Prerequisite: Senior
The course is designed for those students who elect to take a course that prepares them for the rigor required for college work. Students will engage in higher levels of writing, inquiry, and research strategies. These higher level thinking, reading, writing and oral language skills are needed to prepare students for the level of work required to successfully complete their Senior Atsá Project. Students will also engage in college and scholarship exploration that will assist them to become successful at the post-secondary level.
